New Horizon Foundation
The Power Of Community
At New Horizon Church, we believe in the power of community - one that reaches beyond itself to ignite transformation, hope, and compassion in the hearts of those around us. Strategically positioned at the border of Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire, we are more than a physical presence; we seek to inspire transformation through the development of meaningful partnerships and initiatives in the wider local and global community.
The New Horizon Foundation was formed in 2021 following the pandemic, and has a steering team led by Pastor Leigh Goodwin that reports back to the Church Directors and Core team. Guided by a profound desire to see lives touched and shaped by the grace of God, the Foundation endeavours to make the love of God palpable through the embrace of His redemptive community - the Church.
The New Horizon Church Foundation's general purpose is to support and facilitate global and local holistic mission work underpinned by a Christian ethos of compassion, integrity, mercy, and justice. New Horizon Church sees its local community outreach as to the communities covered by the Broxtowe and Amber Valley districts in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire, with a conviction that those touched by the transformative love and grace of God are called to be channels of His redemptive purpose in their community and for their generation.
The Foundation falls under the charity of New Horizon Church and is not a separate organization. However, all funds given to the Foundation for its work are kept separate from the General Church Funds and submitted as part of the annual audited accounts to the Charity Commission.
We invite you to be part of a contemporary Church inspired by the missional spirituality of the first-century Church, yet fully engaged with the challenges and opportunities of the twenty-first century world. The New Horizon Foundation is an intentional expression of our local Church's desire to fulfil its mandate as a catalyst for positive change, both locally and globally.

Networking with local agencies
Locally NHC has partnered with other churches, foodbanks and domestic violence agencies. We believe that no one organization can or should work in isolation. We believe in working collaboratively and signposting people to other agencies who have the most appropriate skills and resources to support them.
Alpha
Alpha is a series of interactive sessions that freely explore the basics of the Christian faith. No pressure. No follow up. No charge.
Week Of Community
We are hosting a week of community events at the end of August. This will culminate in a Community open day hosted at New Horizon Church on the Saturday.
Meeting local needs – flood victims, easter egg appeal for vulnerable families
Each Easter we provide Easter Eggs free to vulnerable families through local charities. We have also responded to the practical needs of vulnerable families during the pandemic and the recent flood in Langley Mill.
Funds were released from the mission Foundation to sponsor new uniforms for children at the Springbank Academy for their first week back at school. Adam Lumley, the headteacher, wishes to thank New Horizon for this sponsorship of school uniforms. This can be a major pressure on families and can create emotional issues for children who don't have the right uniform to wear to start a new academic year.

Short-term mission teams
In 2023 a team went out to work with asylum seekers in Cyprus and support the ministry of the local church in Paphos. Also two of the leadership team have been out to Serbia to visit our mission partners.
On Tuesday the 3rd of June 2025, New Horizon Church sent a mission team to the Good Shepherd Children’s Centre based in Chinhoyi, Zimbabwe, hosted by Tim Chamanga. The team was led by Pastor Leigh, with team members Annie Parsons, Rachel Wright, Julie Cousins and Andy Crouch.
The purpose of the trip was to connect with everyone involved with the Good Shepherd Centre and the local church community, building a strong partnership and develop an understanding of the best way to support Tim and the children’s centre in the future.
The team were looked after perfectly by Tim and his wonderful wife, Yvonne, enjoyed spending time with the children, playing games, teaching the story of Noah’s Ark with associated arts and crafts, teaching the children about online safety. Face painting was a particular favourite with the children.
As we were there for Pentecost Sunday, Pastor Leigh led a workshop for local church leaders encouraging them to let the Holy Spirit assist them with their ministry. On the Sunday, with all the local Pentecostal churches coming together, we shared testimonies, joined enthusiastically with the worship, before listening to a powerful preach from an on fire Pastor Leigh. The service finished with us praying with the local community, before we shared fellowship over a light lunch.
The whole mission journey was fantastic for the team, learning how the children’s centre works, about life in rural Zimbabwe and, most importantly about themselves and God’s purpose for their life.
There were lots of laughs and an equal number of tears as the team built a lifelong bond. They have been pioneers for New Horizon Church and now the planning starts for continuing mission support and visits. Working with Tim, there is a plan of priorities to support the children and the centre and identified projects for future trips.
November 2025 Update
The Good Shepherd Centre has seen major progress in recent months. Thank you to everyone who supported these projects, securing reliable water and electricity for the future.
Solar panels and an industrial battery now provide safe lighting for homework, prevent freezer outages, and allow surplus power to return to the grid, reducing costs.
A new borehole was drilled at no cost by a local organisation, improving water supply and supporting further projects.
A sewing class now teaches children a practical skill and helps repair school uniforms for greater sustainability.
A water butt and guttering system is being installed with the children’s help before the rains, enabling improvements to the allotment and increased crop growth.
This builds on the ongoing support of Harper’s Heart for Children, which funds daily operations.
New Horizon Church, thank you for your support. February’s mission trip plans are well advanced. To learn more or share fundraising ideas, speak to Pastor Leigh, Andy Crouch, or Julie Cousins.
2026 - Good Shepherd Children’s Centre Short Term Mission Trip
During February 2026, (14th-23rd), a short-term mission team from New Horizon Church visited the Good Shepherd Children’s Centre in Chinhoyi, Zimbabwe, hosted by operations manager, Tim Chamanga. The team led by Andy Crouch consisted of Pastor Leigh Goodwin, Jayne Holmes, Amanda Heath, Carol and Les Dennis, Rachel Gregory and Joy Bush. Some were mission veterans, some mission novices.
After a day’s travelling, flying from Manchester to Harare, via Geneva and Addis Ababa, the team arrived in Zimbabwe to be greeted by Tim and his close friend Francis to complete the journey to Chinhoyi. Our first day of mission started with an invite from Bishop Ershwin to the Chinhoyi Christian Centre for their Sunday service. After a powerful set of worship songs, the team were invited to share their testimonies, spend some time with the Kid’s Church before being uplifted by a great preach by Pastor Leigh.
That afternoon the team got to know Tim with a visit to the Chinhoyi Caves. A chance for a little sightseeing and team bonding before the real work began.
The next week was spent at the Good Shepherd Children’s Centre, with each of the team bringing their skills to a range of activities, each one with the care of every child at their heart. Supported by the amazing Farai, the calm Temba and the pastoral guidance of Ershwin, the team dived headfirst into their work. These included puppet making and puppet shows on the theme of Jonah and the whale, Tie-dying T-Shirts, assorted crafts, plumbing and maintenance, technical drawings of the main buildings to prepare plans that will convert single sex dormitories into family units, provision of hygiene packs, ball games and mapping the water system to understand where water can be saved. Preparatory work was also undertaken for the visit to Hunnington Camp that Harper’s Heart for Children trustees are planning.
A strategic meeting was held between the leaders at the Good Shepherd Children’s Centre and the mission leaders, to agree a timetable for ongoing collaboration. This celebrated what has already been achieved, sewing projects, upgraded solar electricity provision, water supply enhancements and focussed our minds on next steps. During the week Wi-Fi was installed within the office, with appropriate safeguards being in place and the completion of work on the new building that will house the first family unit. There was also a productive introductory meeting with the Bak2Eden project, which focusses on giving care leavers life skills, predominantly in agriculture, whilst teaching them to live in the community with a small allowance.
Since our first visit in June 2025, the Good Shepherd Children’s Centre continues to be a safe environment for children to thrive. We saw significant changes for some of the children who were struggling on our first visit, they were now integrated and accepted by their peers and thriving in the loving environment. Three senior boys from Good Shepherd have been invited onto the Chinhoyi youth council, with Brian being the youth mayor. This shows how the local community truly value the work of the Good Shepherd Children’s Centre.
After goodbyes with the children, the week finished with a leadership event for local church leaders under the guidance of Leigh. This event provided encouragement to all, focussing on the key role of the second fiddle. Inspirational.
Friendships were made, laughter and tears were shared, T-shirts were worn with pride, songs were sung and memories were made that will last a lifetime. The team are exploring some new ideas for continuing support, plans are being drawn up for the buildings, an online social care support meeting is being organised, ongoing remotely delivered leadership training will be delivered, made possible by the onsite Wi-Fi. Future collaborations will now be explored after the production of a promotional video.
The unwavering faith of the team at the Good Shepherd Children’s Centre is allowing prayer to be answered. You feel the hand of the Lord guiding you as you work alongside the staff and children. Each member of the team grew throughout the mission, the daily devotionals shared, showed how much the Lord loves us and guides us. There were challenges along the way, but each one was encountered with good grace and the knowledge that the Lord was walking alongside us.
The planning for the next visit has already started.
Special thanks must be given to Tim, his wife Yvonne, who were the perfect hosts throughout the trip and Farai, whose deep knowledge of the children’s needs and here organisational skills meant every activity went smoothly.
The trip finished we a two-day visit to the outskirts of Harare, with Tim and his family. This time allowed the team to process their emotions, gave Tim and Yvonne the chance to relax, whilst visiting some local attractions.
The team are blown away by the support from New Horizon Church, knowing that every step of this mission was covered in prayer gives you the confidence to push on through.
